Is there guidance on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools?
Answer
AI is a rapidly changing technology, so it is important that you keep up-to-date with College guidance on using AI for your academic work.
You can start with the College guidance page linked below:
- Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence @ City of Glasgow College
Guidance on how to use AI in your learning whilst making sure you’re aware of the College’s advice on academic integrity (updated April 2025).
- SQA position statement on Generative AI in assessment: academic session 2025–26
It is shaped by the SQA's position on AI use in assessments. In the SQA's position statement for academic year 25-26, the section on citations (page 3) explains:
Learners studying towards SQA qualifications should use valid, reliable and authoritative sources to support their work.
GenAI outputs do not meet these criteria and should not be cited as stand-alone sources of factual evidence or to support arguments.
Read the guidance to learn how you can use AI for your college work, and how you should not use it. It also explains how you can prepare an "AI statement for assessment".
College advice will be updated periodically to include changes in guidance and practice and to respond to how AI itself evolves.
Talking with your course lecturers will also help you understand how AI can be used, and how AI may be impacting your subject area, and future study and career path
